1. Forums and groups are intertwined but you can just open forum category without group.
2. This is user groups – http://demo1.diaboliquedesign.com/4/groups/
3. You can change it when you go to group -> manage -> settings
WP dashboard is not a part of theme.
It’s not a theme issue, check it under other default WP themes. Try to remove the code line containing WP_MEMORY_LIMIT
In buddypress the group can be public, hidden and private.
