I installed the updated file and when I look on our forums I am still seeing the last forum I created as the title.
Did you repload bbpress.php?
Also, is there any chance of creating a forum type page. I would like to display different widgets on the forum page. Right now forum uses the page template.

Also, when I add the bbPress Topic Views widget, it links to a completely blank page. Not sure what is causing that.
It’s not a theme issue. I tested it and there is no problem.

Group thumbnails will be square. Sorry but it’s a limitation of Buddypress. I suggest to use Gravatar because WP comments’ avatars are integrated with Gravatar only (not BP profile).
It’s an index.php and it’s displayed by WordPress when you didn’t setup any frontpage
